Labplus

The Auckland District Health Board's $20 million laboratory and mortuary facility, LabPlus, was opened in late 2000.

LabPlus was ADHB's vanguard project of the major redevelopment programme, the Building Programme. The laboratory is linked to the new Auckland City Hospital via an air bridge.

The high-tech laboratory consolidated the work of 13 laboratories which were located in eight separate buildings. The consolidation achieves quicker test results for patients leading to earlier diagnosis, treatment and discharge from hospital.

The laboratory was the result of more than two years planning and research both in New Zealand and overseas; to ensure flexibility in times of rapidly changing technology.

ADHB laboratory staff were involved in the design and the comprehensive tertiary pathology service was amended and enhanced in response to their submissions.

The three storey, 5000 sq. metre building includes a mortuary located on the ground floor.

Based on best practice international design principles, it is the principal mortuary in the Auckland region.
