The PIN registrar's primary areas of responsibility are within PIN and also
supervision of the postnatal ward SHO.For the postnatal wards, the SHO will in the
first instance contact the PIN registrar for advice, unless clearly the
specialist needs to see the infant in question.
In PIN, the primary aim is Discharge Planning.
The Family Liaison Nurse (FLN) is a key co-worker in directing this and will
assist you accordingly. Remember that Discharge Planning is an essential
part of the neonatal admission and may help avoid the need for readmission.
- Familiarise yourself with the
PIN Discharge Guidelines.
- Use updated flow sheets and problem lists to facilitate this process.
- This will ensure that the immunisation,
head scan, eye referral, audiology, CDU follow-up etc arrangements are
completed.
