SKIP harness

The S.K.I.P. harness has been designed by members of the National Women's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Flight team, to be used in the transportation of infants ranging from 500gms to 10kg.

Three sizes are available, colour coded for easy identification:

  • 500gms to 1500gms,
  • 1.5kg to 5kg
  • 5kg to 10kg.

Following extensive research we became aware of a significant absence of a secure harnessing system that provided both safety and visibility when transporting this fragile population. Subsequently the S.K.I.P harness was designed. Following two years of design research and four prototype changes the final design emerged.

The choice of leather provides strength, durability, comfort and complies with infection control standards. The use of industrial Velcro as the securing mechanism provides ease of assembly and security in the volatile transport environment.

The harness has byeen tested by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority and is considered an airworthy design, suitable to withstand the Load test and G Forces in Aero-medical activities.  Each S.K.I.P harness is supplied with a Certificate of Compliance.

A serial number is given to each harness for traceability and quality assurance purposes. Thorough testing has proven the S.K.I.P harness is the best solution for neonatal patient restraint.
