Management of Amoxycillin Administration

Administration

Slow IV Injection

  1. Reconstitute with water to 250 mg/ml immediately prior to use.
 

Amoxycillin 500mg

Amoxycillin 1gram

Powder Space

 0.4ml 0.8ml

Water to be added

 1.6ml 3.2ml
  500mg in 2.0ml 1gram in 4.0ml
  1. Shake vigorously. Filter before administration through a 0.2 micron Pall filter.
  2. Does not require further dilution.
  3. Administer by slow IV injection over 3-5 minutes.
  4. Compatible with sodium chloride 0.9%, dextrose 5% . Use within 1 hour following reconsititution.
  5. Do NOT mix with other drugs, IV solutions, blood or blood products.
  6. Flush line with sodium chloride 0.9% before and after infusion of amoxycillin.

Nursing Considerations

  1. Observe for signs of adverse effects.
  2. Observe IV site carefully during administration.
  3. Observe for signs of renal, hepatic or haematological dysfunction during prolonged therapy.
