Administration via Drager Babylog (in all modes) or SensorMedics

Nitric Oxide is an additional therapy administered to the baby via a ventilator circuit.

Equipment Required

Nitric Oxide Accessory Pack for Drager Babylog and Sensormedic

One scavenging set (Babylog) NB Scavenging set for sensormedics is placed on circuit at set up
2 Nitric Oxide adaptors (Babylog)
2 Elbow connectors (Sensormedics)
One Nitric Oxide tank extension set (anaesthesia gas sampling line)
Printer Nitric Oxide connector
Neopuff Nitric Oxide connector (not disposable)
NB: The short blue extension from Babylog ventilation circuit will be required in the circuit regardless if baby is nursed on heat table or incubator (spares packed separately).

NO_x air monitor

The scavenger has no pressure gauge. Once scavenger circuit is connected, turn dial until suction noise is audible.

Process

Follow the steps below to commence administration of Nitric Oxide.

Ensure circuit is set up correctly as per appropriate diagram:

Sampling line attached to cylinder → nitric adaptor and placed in circuit as per diagram
Printer NO_x plus sampling line attached to nitric adaptor.

Scavenging unit in place (see above)

Doctor/NS-ANP is present when NO flow is turned on:

On cylinder: either one knob or two knobs - middle knob first (different cylinder heads in service)

Flow meter: 0.2 litres (200mls) per min with a gas flow of 10 litres per minute gives around 17ppm (check approximate concentration using the nitric oxide calculator)

NB:
The NO cylinder is checked for leaks using a "snoop liquid leak detection" (instructions on bottle)

when regulator is attached to a new cylinder

if leak suspected
