Specific equipment required: See longline insertion guideline |

Procedure is not to be performed via
the porthole. If the baby is in an incubator, lift top of incubator back and cover baby with overhead Drager heating unit on automatic (servo). |

N.B. |
Ensure temperature probe is secure on baby. |
|
3 |
Using a sterile technique Dr/NS-ANP will insert Long Line and secure the catheter with steristrips followed by Tegaderm, with assistance from nurse. |

4 |
Do not commence fluids until catheter position is confirmed by X-ray. Contrast media will be required and is administered sterilely by Dr/NS-ANP. |

5 |
Attach new fluids using sterile technique. |

Remove Tegaderm and loosen steristrips |

2 |
Pull line out slowly and carefully. Beware of snapping off line. |
|
3 |
Apply pressure to site for 5 minutes to stop bleeding. |
|
4 |
Cover site with small piece of cotton wool and Leucoplast. Observe for bleeding. |

5 |
Document on observation chart and multi disciplinary notes. |
