Site Visit September 5, 2003

Three team members visited the new NICU again. Since the last visit just over one month ago, there has been a huge amount of work done.  To refresh your memory of the layout, click here.

This is the main entrance corridor for parents and visitors, looking south towards the reception.

This is the view from the education room, looking at the bridge between the current Auckland Hospital and the new Auckland City Hospital.

The Whanau room.  Behind Shirley is the door to the Level 3 area interview room.  This door can be opened to provide additional space for large families if necessary.

The Whanau room has glass on the south side to there will be good visibility.

This is a Level 3 room, which faces towards the bridge.  The ceiling mounted supplies are yet to go in.

This is the view from a south-sided Level 3 room. The blinds are between double-glazed windows.

This is a pod of 3 Level 3 rooms on the south side.  Visibility for clinical staff should be good.  There will be blinds between the rooms to maintain privacy if needed.

This view is from one of the East-West corridors, looking past the Whanau Room on the left with Level 3 rooms past this room.  Offices are on the right side.  The isolation room is at the very end of this corridor.

This is the reception area (without cabinetry).  The Lamson tube is seen here.

These are the windows between Level 2 rooms.  There will be wall mounted gas and power units.

There will be an assessment room for assessment of babies coming in from the community, or those babies from the wards who need procedures or investigations.

The parent rooms have a view into the hospital atrium.

The bridge linking the two buildings will have considerable traffic.  There is a lot of area there for movement of people.

There is a privacy screen for women being transferred via the bridge from the Tower Block to the new building.  As you can see, they have managed to preserve a view.
