Site Visit March 27, 2002
On March 27, 2002, a delegation of
staff from National Women's Hospital visited Level 9 of the Acute Services
Building (ASB) on the Grafton site. Members of Newborn who visited were
Carl Kuschel, David Knight, Jean Bertram, Ros Gasparini, and Carolynn Whiteman.
At this stage, the building is
largely a shell but the images below will give some indication of where work is
up to on the site and, more importantly, the fantastic views from the 9th floor
of the building. At this point in time, we are regretting not staking our
claim for the North-East corner of the building!

This will be the view from
the tutorial room in NICU. The Wallace block in the background
will be demolished and replaced with a multistorey carpark. |
This is the view from the
proposed tearoom. A sibling playroom is proposed to sit with an
outdoor (and fenced, obviously) area on top of the projection from the
Tower Block (seen straight across). |
This is looking north from
one of the Level 3 rooms on the northern side of the NICU. There will be
an atrium linking the ASB to Auckland Hospital which will impact on the
current view. |
The entire length of the
hospital is enormous. This image is looking west. |

the southern Level 3 rooms, looking out over Park Road and the Domain. |
This view is from where
NICU ends, looking back over to the east over the Domain. |
