Management of Nystatin Administration

Description

Prescription

Topical powder

Topical ointment

Oral

  1. Shake well before use.
  2. For active infection.
  1. For prophylactic use.

Topical Ointment

  1. Avoid contact of drug with your skin.
  2. Apply ointment to mycotic lesions using a gloved hand or with a swab or applicator.

Topical Powder

  1. Apply one puff to specified site.

Nursing Considerations

  1. Observe for signs of adverse effects.
  2. Provide frequent oral care.
  3. If dummy is used, change daily to avoid reinfection.
  4. Continue treatment for at least 48-72 hours after lesions disappear or antibiotics are ceased.
