Lead Clinician - Associate Professor Neil Johnson Assoc Prof Neil trained in both the UK and New Zealand, and has completed the advanced training program necessary to accredit as a Subspecialist in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. He is now involved with training and examining other fertility subspecialists throughout Australia and New Zealand. Neil's main clinical interests are fertility, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, endometriosis, menstrual disorders, and colposcopy. With a national and growing international reputation as a leader in gynaecology and fertility clinical research, his main areas of research interest currently include evidence based fertility treatments, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries and ovarian reserve. He has developed an innovative treatment for unexplained and endometriosis-related infertility, using lipiodol, a poppy seed oil. In his role as Chairman of Repromed Auckland’s Scientific Committee, Neil is responsible for leading the ongoing review and enhancement of Repromed Auckland’s clinical outcomes based on scientific and academic developments, initiatives and results both within the Repromed Group and internationally. Neil is Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Auckland. He is also an editor of the Cochrane Menstrual Disorders & Subfertility Group, and is a member of the New Zealand Endometriosis Foundation Trust Board.
Consultant - Dr Karen Buckingham Dr Karen Buckingham has been working in the area of infertility management and treatment for the past seven years. She trained in New Zealand and the United Kingdom as a gynaecologist and, to complement her practical experience, is currently completing the advanced training programme to subspecialise in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Her areas of clinical interest include recurrent pregnancy loss and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Karen is a part-time lecturer in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology at the University of Auckland and also provides infertility services within the public sector at Fertility Plus. In addition to her busy medical practice, Karen is mother to three young children and understands the hopes and challenges facing couples as they seek to start their own families. She sees it as a privilege to have the opportunity to use her clinical expertise to help assist couples in realising their dreams.
Consultant - Dr Martin Sowter Dr Martin Sowter trained as a specialist in the United Kingdom and Auckland and has worked in fertility clinics in Bristol, Plymouth and Auckland, gaining wide experience in the management of infertility and laparoscopic surgery. Martin’s special areas of interest are infertility, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, the management of endometriosis, menstrual problems and colposcopy. He was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine in 2000 following two years of research on the medical and laparoscopic treatment of ectopic pregnancy. Martin is a part-time senior lecturer at the University of Auckland and specialist at National Women's. Martin has published widely with over 40 publications and conference presentations on aspects of infertility and gynaecology. He also works at the Auckland Obstetric Centre (www.obstetrics.co.nz) and has enjoyed looking after many women during their pregnancy after fertility treatment.
Cosultant - Dr Marian Carter Dr Marian Carter completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Auckland before undertaking specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at National Women’s Hospital in Auckland. She then completed her training in the United Kingdom, where she worked for five years. Marian was the Clinical Research Registrar for the IVF unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before returning to New Zealand in 1989 where she was appointed as part-time specialist at National Women’s Hospital and commenced private practice.
Reproductive endicrinology consultant - Stella Milsom FRACP graduated from Otago University in 1978, completed Endocrine training in Christchurch and Auckland followed by doctoral studies with Professor Peter Gluckman at the University of Auckland. Her post-fellowship training was undertaken in the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA and subsequently at Middlesex Hospital, London. She returned to New Zealand in 1993 to take up position as a specialist in Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine with Fertility Associates and the Department of Reproductive Medicine, National Women’s Hospital. She is a clinical senior lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Auckland, a member of the Royal College of Physicians Examinations Committee and Endocrine Sub-editor for the Australian and New Zealand Medical Journal and New Ethicals. She is a member of National Health Committee formulating current HRT guidelines. Her clinical and research interests include ovulatory disorders, especially the polycystic ovary syndrome, lactation physiology and the menopause.
Reproductive endicrinology consultant - Megan Ogilvie MBChB FRACP . graduated from University of Auckland and completed specialist endocrine training in Auckland. She undertook postgraduate training in general and reproductive endocrinology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and subsequently at Middlesex Hospital in London Megan returned to New Zealand in 2004 to join Fertility Associates to work in the areas of both general and reproductive endocrinology with particular interests in polycystic ovarian syndrome, amenorrhoea, menopause and gonadal dysgenesis.
