Interpreters

Interpreting services can be organised for people who are deaf or those who do not speak English. The nurse or midwife in charge of the ward/unit can arrange this. Click here for more information.

 

Social workers and pastoral care

Social workers are available to assist you with family and personal problems. They can provide information, counselling and liaison services and can advocate on your behalf. The staff can contact the social workers for you or you can contact the Social Work team directly on extension 25967. Chaplains are also available to all patients, with regular services held at the Sir John Logan Campbell Quiet Room (Level 6, main hospital building).

 

He Kamaka Oranga (Maori Health Provider Team)

The He Kamaka Oranga team works alongside patients, whanau and the clinical teams to ensure there is good communication and care is coordinated, both in hospital and after discharge. The team can help with cultural and spiritual support and guidance. Contact them on (09) 367 0000, extension 29200, from 8am to 8pm.

 

Retail and communications services

Auckland City Hospital provides patients and visitors with a number of convenient shopping facilities. On Level 5 (called "Galleria on 5") you will find a pharmacy, a florist, a bookstore/post office, a cafe and coffee bar. These shops are open 7 days and sell, among other things, phone cards, newspapers, toiletries, snacks and flowers. There is also a small shopping centre across from the hospital in Park Road. There are public toilets for visitors (including toilets for the disabled), and parenting rooms with baby change areas, and an area suitable for breastfeeding on every floor.

 

Telephones and mail services

Please check with your nurse or midwife if you plan to use a mobile phone as these may interfere with equipment. There is a landline telephone in the whanau / family room on each ward. This can be used for outgoing calls in the Auckland free calling area. Coin and card telephones are located in the hospital main corridors. Phone cards can be bought at the shops on Level 5. We are not able to receive incoming telephone calls for patients. Mail for patients is delivered to the wards on weekdays. Newspapers and stamps can be purchased at Level 5 in the Post Shop. There is also a Post Box for sending mail on Level 5 outside the book store.  Coin and card operated telephones are available in the hospital main corridors on all floors. Phone cards can be purchased at the shops on Level 5.

Food services

As well as the cafe and coffee bar, snack and cold drink vending machines are located in the main hospital corridors (the "Hospital Street") on most levels. Level 2  Atrium Starship has coffee, hot chocolate and soups.  Level 3  Starship you can also find frozen meals. We also have a small Kiwimart for General groceries, confectionery, newspapers and beverages at the Galleria on Level 5.

 

Banking

ATM (money machines) are located:

  • In the main hospital building, level 5 retail area, next to the florist

  • On level 3 of Starship Children’s Hospital

  • ASB bank has a branch on Park Road, open from 9am – 4.30pm on weekdays.

Security

Auckland City Hospital has an active 24-hour security service. If you have a concern about security issues, tell the ward staff or security officers immediately. After hours, visitors must check in with the security staff at Level 5 before being able to proceed to the wards.

 

Wifi hotspots

Free wifi is available in some areas in our buildings. Look out for ‘Hospital Hot spot’ on the wifi networks on your mobile phone, notebook or laptop and you can log in for one hour of free wifi.
