You'll want to work in PICU because....
You will receive an individualised orientation programme and support at the bedside to ensure your success. Initiative and self directed learning will be rewarded with progression through the professional development programme which is supported by the senior team once you are orientated.
Ongoing education opportunities include a postgraduate certificate with the University of Auckland and the chance to work with children requiring a variety of clinical supports including advanced ventilation support therapies. Additionally, as an expert nurse, you may be interested in pursuing other opportunities such as transport or ECMO.
The nursing team is supported to be autonomous where appropriate within the broader multidisciplinary team. Nursing staff are expected to practice to high standards with emphasis on evidence base and quality management.
The unit has active teaching and research programmes. There is a postgraduate paediatric intensive care nursing course run jointly by the PICU Nurse Educators and the University of Auckland. The unit is involved in several Australasian research studies.
The variety of nursing opportunities plus a supportive work environment make PICU a satisfying and dynamic place to work.
Attributes Required
Ideally you will come from a PICU, paediatric, neonatal or an adult ICU background.
Within our progressive unit there is room for a diverse range of nursing styles. The ability to critically decision-make, communicate clearly and be self aware are viewed as positive attributes which will help to ensure you are a good fit for the unit.
