CHILD HEALTHWhen considering child health (0 – 14 years) the ADHB finds it useful to do so in terms of two age groupings, those children aged 0 to 4 years and those aged 5 years to 14 years, as this is largely how services are delivered based on developmental ages and stages.
The ADHB Child Health Improvement Plan was developed (2006-2011 CHIP) to provide a framework for activities regarding child health until 2011. However as with all plans there is a need to be flexible and adaptive so there are always new or additional elements which are incorporated. These generally arise from Ministry of Health directives or from recommendations made by the ADHB Child Health Stakeholder Advisory Group.
The CHIP acknowledges that there is a broad range of factors that influence the health of children e.g. housing, education and income which while lying primarily outside the health sector have a profound influence on health status. As such alongside the clear health priority areas e.g. injury, hearing, immunisation, nutrition/obesity, skin sepsis and oral health, there is a clear effort to work across sectors to maximise health gain.
ADHB is engaged with a group of stakeholders in development of a new child health improvement plan.
The draft Child Health Improvement Plan 2012 – 2017 is now available. We’d like to get your feedback on this important Plan.
You can click here to go to our Reo Ora - Health Voice site where you will find a summary of the initial feedback we received, the draft Child Health Plan and a survey form to provide feedback on the draft Plan. Alternatively you can send feedback to Ruth Bijl on RBijl@adhb.govt.nz We would appreciate receiving your feedback by Friday 30 September 2011.
Please take the time to tell us what you think – because children are our highest priority and we want to get it right for them.
