The Maori Research Review Committee (MRRC) was
established to provide a constructive consultation process for ADHB and other
researchers who are undertaking research at ADHB, who require advice to ensure they meet the requirements of the
Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Best Practice and National Ethics Standards prior to
submitting their project for ethics approval.
|
|
The role of the MRRC is to review all research
conducted in ADHB against the ADHB Bicultural Policy, Tikanga Best Practice Policy
and Guidelines for Researchers on Health Research Involving Maori (2008)

|
The MRRC provides advice to researchers to enable
them to meet the requirements of the Treaty of Waitangi and Tikanga Best
Practice.
|
|
The MRRC provides a letter of support to researchers, to
demonstrate that a process of formal review of research has occurred.
|
|
Please note, this process does not exclude the researcher responsibility to
undertake separate consultation with Maori regarding the research project. It is expected that some discussion or advice has been initiated in the
development of the study. In the case of some internationally designed
studies it is expected that the processes by which the research will be
implemented in New Zealand have been considered and discussed. |
|
The Research Office facilitates research review by the MRRC. To initiate this
process you must have submitted the minimal amount of documents to
register your project
with the Research office. Upon receipt of these documents the RO
forwards them to the MRRC on researchers' behalf. |
|
The ADHB Research Office provides
secretariat services for the MRRC. Please contact Jenny Ma
jennym@adhb.govt.nz
for further information.
|
|
The Agenda for the MRRC meetings closes
on the 20th of the month. Applications received after the
20th will
be held and reviewed for the next month.
